Tenant was created by artist and designer Peter LaRue with the intention to create garments as a space to live in; a temporal experience for those who inhabit them. In each piece there is a concentration on material, construction, and how the wearer will experience and interact with the garment. With an emphasis on using natural fiber materials and careful construction, Tenant intends to create lasting, conscious pieces that will evolve with its wearer.
Peter lives and works out of his studio in the Hudson Valley of New York. Having graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he has since become a self taught designer, patternmaker, and sample maker. Having a conceptual art education alongside his experience working as a tailor in a warehouse of vintage military uniforms and workwear, he has created Tenant as a means to interpret those experiences.
Each of the current Tenant pieces are made entirely by Peter in his studio.
